Pay-per-click is often used in search engine advertising, such as Google or Bing, where an ad will appear when a user searches for something relevant online. However, in order for ads to appear in a search, advertisers will often have to enter a keyword ad auction, where a search engine will determine the rank of your ad via such factors as relevance, highest bid and quality of ad.
